One of the most difficult-to-process moments in last night’s Grammy telecast was the collaborative performance by Imagine Dragons and Kendrick Lamar, which mashed up ID’s “Radioactive” and Kendrick’s “m.A.A.d. city” with what seemed like new material mixed in. Well, today there’s a “Radioactive” remix online that does indeed feature a new Kendrick verse, and even more so than the coordinated white-hoodie headbanging of last night’s gig, it first toes and then obliterates the line between exhilaratingly urgent live band hip-hop and churlish late-’90s nu metal, culminating in what sounds like a hyperventilating Kendrick having a nervous breakdown and while wondering how it ever came to this.
