Watch Win Butler And Pearl Jam Cover “Rockin’ In The Free World” In Australia
Last year, Blur dropped out of Australia’s Big Day Out Festival, allegedly due to some unresolved issue with their set time; they were said to have made unreasonable demands about playing in between co-headliners Arcade Fire and Pearl Jam. Alas, we’ll never know if Damon Albarn would have joined Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler and Pearl Jam for the latter’s festival-closing cover of “Rockin’ In The Free World” — the 1989 Neil Young song that has been a staple of Pearl Jam sets since the Ten days. Not that the song needed assistance from Albarn — PJ more than fill the stage and rock the hell out of the track; Butler and Eddie Vedder trade off verses, and join voices for some gang chants when the song gets real big. Looks like a good way to close out a bash. Check out some fan-filmed video of the performance below.
