Miley Cyrus – “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?” (Arctic Monkeys Cover)
As readers of Chris DeVille’s The Week In Pop column already know, Miley Cyrus brought her particular brand of pop-star spectacle to MTV Unplugged last week. But one interesting performance that didn’t make it to the telecast went up online today. It was cut from the show, but Cyrus tried out an acoustic cover of Arctic Monkeys’ sharp, needling single “Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High?” Queens Of The Stone Age and Jagwar Ma have both covered the song recently, but Cyrus’s cover stands tall next to theirs. She’s got enough swagger and iciness to sell the song, she’s got the technical chops to hit a couple of big notes toward the end, and she sings like she’s knows what she’s singing about. It’s good! Honest! Listen below.
