“All instruments at Super Bowl half time shows are prerecorded. Have been for a good many years. It isn’t feasible to soundcheck everyone in the amount of time they have and too many things can go wrong. You might be able to take two minutes to fix something at a regular concert, but two minutes at the Superbowl is millions and millions of dollars down the drain. The NFL isn’t willing to take that risk”

Having played guitar in a pop backing band on TV before, I can vouch firsthand that most of the instruments are usually prerecorded. Drums are frequently live and vocals are usually live, but guitars, basses, keys, etc, are often canned. I have mimed guitar at a football halftime show, on American Idol, X Factor, Dancing With The Stars, and the American Music Awards. I think the only onse where we were fully live were The Today Show and Good Morning America. It’s just the way it is with most TV broadcasts.

In todays electronics…The wireless system is BUILT INTO the guitar…not popular with REGULAR musicians yet…But the BIG STARS already use it…You can find the video on Youtube explaining it….People are so fast to claim they know everything because they’re a musician…Lol

As one of the dads, I couldn’t agree more about the follow up questions. We’ve been working with the girls, trying to get them to be a bit more conversational. They are working on it and, you’ve got to remember, they are just 7th graders and not trained journalists 🙂 And, typically we use two cameras and edit the footage together. We used two on this interview but the angle at which the second camera was positioned didn’t give us good material so we had to just use the footage I shot. So, yeah, it’s not the smoothest.
