My Morning Jacket – “Farewell Transmission” (Songs: Ohia Cover)
Last year, after a long battle with alcoholism, Jason Molina, who led Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co., died. On the new double-disc collection Farewell Transmission: The Music Of Jason Molina, a number of Molina’s peers and acolytes have gathered to pay him tribute. Wooden Wand, Murder By Death, Bottomless Pit, the Black Swans, Sarah Jaffe, and plenty of others cover Molina’s songs, and a group of Molina’s former bandmates, calling themselves Memorial Electric Company, contribute an all-new song called “Arm In Arm.” Below, listen to My Morning Jacket’s throbbing take on “Farewell Transmission,” the opening track from the Songs: Ohia album Magnolia Electric Company and arguably Molina’s single greatest song.
