Great week so far for fans of old-school emo bands. Yesterday, Pac-NW emotive thrashers Sunny Real Estate announced they’re releasing their first new song since 2000, and today the brainy Chicago emo combo known as Owls has announced its first show in 12 years at the Subterranean in Chicago on 5/16. Owls also offered up the second taste from their forthcoming comeback album, Two. Like “I’m Surprised…” before it, “Why Oh Why” is vintage Kinsella math-rock with trembling vocals, noodly guitar parts, and complex rhythms that herk and jerk like grinding gears. Listen below.
