Drake has been touring through Europe lately, and Friday in the UK city of Birmingham he premiered a new song, a slow jam called “Days In The East” produced by OVO Sound signee and fellow Ontario product PARTYNEXTDOOR. (In typically schmoozy fashion, he announced, “Just for Birmingham, too. You know I had to do something special.”) It’s a langourous, woebegone synth dirge that’s right in Drake’s wheelhouse — think Take Care’s “Good Ones Go” interlude or most of his breakout So Far Gone mixtape — but with a melody that sounds closer to the Weeknd than Drake would probably like to admit. Watch video of the Birmingham performance below, followed by an encore rendition in Liverpool in which Drake shares further details.
