"Wait a minute," goes the cooing refrain of Dessert's latest single. "It's not your fault." It would be a heartwarming sentiment, but off-kilter rhythms, bracing synth detonations, and sampled adlibs render "Player" more traumatic than comforting. The Fader, which premiered this track today, compared it to "Arca remixing Postal Service," and while the fragile tenor at the center of all that aggressive percussion reminds me more of Hot Chip's Alexis Taylor than Ben Gibbard, conceptually the comparison is spot on.
