Watch Stevie Nicks And Jimmy Fallon (As Tom Petty) Recreate The “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around” Video
This week The Tonight Show has booked talent from the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony, which goes down in Brooklyn Thursday night. Stevie Nicks was Jimmy Fallon’s musical guest tonight; at the Rock Hall event she’ll pay tribute to Linda Rondstadt, who will not be attending because her Parkinson’s disease makes travel difficult. In addition to performing “Edge Of Seventeen” with Waddy Wachtel and the Roots, the Fleetwood Mac/American Horror Story icon joined the host (as Tom Petty) for a loving recreation of the video for “Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around,” Nicks’ first and biggest hit. It was the 25th video to be played on MTV back in ’81, and since the channel didn’t have a lot of videos then it remained in pretty heavy rotation. Fallon’s somehow been able to convince celebrities to impersonate their younger selves on his show, and as always the attention to detail here is impressive. The comedian’s “young Tom Petty” is certainly as good as David Spade’s “middle-aged Tom Petty,” and Nicks sounds great, too. Watch them perform, after an introduction by the episode’s other Hall Of Fame guests, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl of Nirvana…
UPDATE: And here’s that “Edge Of Seventeen” performance…
