The-Dream – “Black”
R&B auteur and songwriter-to-the-stars The-Dream just shared a new song called “Black,” a slow and stately song about oppression and the feeling of disenfranchisement. It’s a surprising look for a singer better known for talking about sex than for anything else, but the song works. And the lyric video, which uses images of global protests and civil right leaders, drives the point home harder. The video comes with the tag “classism is the new racism,” and its editors did a nice job getting Donald Sterling into the oppressors montage in a timely fashion. Check it out below.
In other, less uplifting Dream news, TMZ reports that the singer is currently wanted for questioning by the NYPD for punching, kicking, and strangling his then-girlfriend Lydia Nam, who was pregnant with his kid at the time. Nam alleges that the attack took place at New York’s Plaza Hotel last April, though she didn’t file any charges until November. The-Dream denies the charges.
