Stagnant Pools – “You Whir” (Stereogum Premiere)
Bloomington duo Stagnant Pools plays a brooding blend of noise and shoegaze they describe as “dream punk.” If that makes you think they’ll sound like No Age, consider the gelatinous pace of new single “You Whir,” which sounds something like Swans on an MBV kick. It’s exceedingly pretty for a song built around deathly moans and dirge-like rhythms. Listen below, and while you’re at it, check out the previous single, “Intentions.”
