Stream Tobacco Ultima II Massage
Next week, the Black Moth Super Rainbow member Tobacco will release Ultima II Massage, his first solo album in four years, and it’s a fascinating piece of work. The album is full of shimmering, precise, near-bubblegum pop melodies, but it buries them under layer upon layer of disorienting electronic sludge and creeped-out vocal. The LP is as pretty as it is unsettling, and I haven’t heard an album this flat-out enjoyable from the experimental glitch-bloop underground in a long time. We’ve posted the early track “Eruption (Gonna Get My Hair Cut At The End Of The Summer),” as well as director Eric Wareheim’s nightmare-fuel video for “Streaker.” And now you can stream the whole album at Pitchfork.
Ultima II Massage is out 5/13 on Ghostly.
