Watch James Hetfield, Billie Joe Armstrong, & Joe Satriani Mash Up Bob Seger & Green Day At Acoustic-4-A-Cure
Earlier this week, Metallica did a sublimely weird four-song acoustic set 10th Annual MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit Concert, and last night, the band’s frontman, James Hetfield, did another unplugged performance for charity, this time at the Acoustic-4-A-Cure benefit. Papa Het played four songs, two Metallica ballads (“Nothing Else Matters” and “Until It Sleeps”), the Beatles classic “A Day In The Life” (reprising, curiously, the weakest moment from Monday’s set), and a medley of Bob Seger’s “Turn The Page” (a song Metallica has covered for many years) and Green Day’s “Boulevard Of Broken Dreams.” He was joined on the last number by Billie Joe Armstrong (who sang lead during the “Boulevard” segment) and guitar hero Joe Satriani. I’d just like to state for the record that I’m a hundred percent in favor of Metallica doing this kind of stuff for charity, but as a lifetime fan, I want their next album to sound like this, not like this:
