Jenny Lewis Details Insomnia-Inspired The Voyager, Prod. By Ryan Adams
The former Rilo Kiley leader Jenny Lewis hasn’t released a solo album since 2008’s Acid Tongue, but she’ll make her big return this summer with the long-awaited new one The Voyager. As it turns out, Ryan Adams produced most of the new album alongside his musical partner Mike Viola, and she recorded it at Adams’s Pax Am studio. Beck and Lewis’s Jenny And Johnny bandmate Johnathan Rice also contributed production.) And in a press release, Lewis says that the album was inspired by her battle against serious insomnia: “After Rilo Kiley broke up and a few really intense personal things happened, I completely melted down. It nearly destroyed me. I had such severe insomnia that, at one point, I didn’t sleep for five straight nights. Many of the songs on The Voyager came out of the need to occupy my mind in the moments when I just couldn’t shut down… This record was the hardest one I ever made. The Voyager tells that story: the longest night of my life and the journey to finally getting some rest.” Below, check out the album’s tracklist.
