Watch Phil Collins Perform With Miami Schoolkids, Sing “In The Air Tonight” For The First Time In 9 Years
I am a big fan of Phil Collins — check the avatar — but I rarely get to write about him. The former Genesis frontman retreated from rock stardom years ago, in part because spinal surgery made it too painful for him to drum. These days Collins collects artifacts from the Alamo. But from time to time he’ll talk to the press in Miami, where his ex-wife lives with their two pre-teen sons. And that is where he made a rare public appearance earlier this week for Miami Country Day’s middle school spring concert. A “nervous” Collins joined the prep school’s amateur musicians to sing his debut solo single “In The Air Tonight” and Genesis’ “Land Of Confusion.” The tour behind Collins’ last album, 2010’s Motown covers LP Going Back, featured none of his original songs so this is the first time he’s performed those hits in almost a decade. Watch the video below.
Better practice, kids. When Phil Collins was your age, he was working with the Beatles.
Collins has allegedly written some songs for Adele’s forthcoming 25. But obviously we’re holding out for the not inconceivable Lamb Lies Down On Broadway revival.
