The Moles – “Beauty Queen Of Watts”
The Moles is Australian indie-pop legend Richard Davies, who has also partnered with American master Bob Pollard as Cosmos and with chamber pop composer Eric Matthews as Cardinal. Davies hasn’t released music as the Moles for 21 years, but that absence is ending in the form of the new “Beauty Queen Of Watts” / “Chills” double-A-side single. The tracks were recorded by Woods member Jarvis Taveniere in Brooklyn with help from Free Time, an Australian/American act featuring former members of Real Estate and Scott & Charlene’s Wedding. “Beauty Queen Of Watts” is classic sparkling Oceania indie-pop, ripe with jangling clean electric guitars and wistful reminiscence. Explains Davies, “Sydney is beautiful but is also the place that people were sentenced to from the British Isles. So, a very romantic, sad, but resilient, hopeful song, like a convict would write.” Download this pleasant music below.
