Dogfish Head Debuts Guided By Voices Beer Called BEER Thousand
Just in time for the 20th anniversary of Guided By Voices’ landmark Bee Thousand, Dogfish Head Craft Brewery is releasing a GBV tribute beer called BEER Thousand. Here’s an excerpt from the announcement on Dogfish Head’s site:
To celebrate that independent spirit and the 20th anniversary of the band’s classic album Bee Thousand, Dogfish Head has brewed BEER Thousand. This imperial lager, chosen to echo the copious amounts of lager that fueled GBV’s garage recordings, is brewed with 10 grains and 10 hop varieties, and clocks in at 10% ABV.
10x10x10 = BEER Thousand.
“I can’t believe it’s been 20 years,” says Pollard. “But I’ll drink to that.”
Beer Thousand won’t be widely available until this fall, but those in attendance at GBV’s show tonight at the Barrymore Theatre in Madison can get a sneak preview, and patrons at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats in Rehoboth Beach, DE can drink an early batch of the brew while supplies last. GBV will also play a Dogfish-sponsored show 8/21 at the recently refurbished Milton Theater in Milton, DE, just down the street from Dogfish Head’s production brewery. When the beer does go on sale, it will be packaged with a special 10-inch record with 10 songs recorded live on 6/25/94 during the Insects Of Rock tour, GBV’s first-ever tour.
On the one hand, I can’t believe it’s taken this long for Guided By Voices to get their own beer. On the other hand, I thought these guys were more inclined toward your basic domestic brews. Either way, consider me officially suckered into buying some.
