playlounge – “handclap cinema” (Stereogum Premiere)
South London indie-rock duo playlounge (all-lowercase, yes) is teaming up with another promising UK two-piece, Nai Harvest, for a 12-inch split called Flower. (That’s both bands together up top.) Each band will contribute an original and cover a song by the other band. The original playlounge contribution is “handclap cinema,” a song that reinforces the power of laying an aggressive fuzzed-out strum in the pocket of a bombastic drumbeat. But what begins as a charming pop-rocker eventually explodes into a Sonic Youth sprawl that sets harmonic noise gorgeously afloat. Have a listen below.
