Mr. Twin Sister – “Blush”
The Long Island indie-poppers Twin Sister recently made the baffling decision to change their name to Mr. Twin Sister, which, I think we can all agree, is not a good band name at all. But band names matter way less than the actual music coming out of those bands, and right now, Mr. Twin Sister might be better than they’ve ever been. As they changed their name, they released the skittery and synthy new song “Out Of The Dark,” and it was good. And now they’ve announced plans for a self-titled album, coming next month, and shared a languorous new torch song called “Blush.” It’s a finely orchestrated, idiosyncratic take on hotel-lounge jazz, complete with string section and smoothed-out sax solo, and it ripples and flows beautifully, reminding me of the slower and more sensuous songs that Cibo Matto used to do. Below, listen to “Blush” and check out the new album’s tracklist.
