White Hinterland Writes About Dealing With Depression, Suicidal Thoughts
In the wake of Robin Williams’ suicide, a lot of people have been opening up about their struggles with mental illness and depression. White Hinterland, aka singer-songwriter Casey Dienel, posted a beautifully written essay on her website about her mood disorder and how that affected the writing process behind her most recent album, Baby. “For many the suicidal state is involuntary. You get there because you feel trapped in a corner. You get there because you can’t see any other way out,” she writes. “Being told it is a selfish thing to do reinforces feelings of helpless- and hopelessness while driving the discussion away from what is most important: helping people who are seriously ill receive treatment.” Read more over on her website.
