50 Cent’s G-Unit crew were at the top of the rap pyramid in the early ’00s, but they spent the years since then slowly disintegrating as 50’s commercial stock plummeted. But the crew — 50, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck, Tony Yayo — reunited unexpectedly at this year’s Hot 97 Summer Jam concert. And last night, the crew quietly released the new surprise six-track EP The Beauty Of Independence on iTunes. It appears that the newly minted 50 Cent protege Kidd Kidd is now a full-on G-Unit member, but other than that, this is the same core of guys who made Beg For Mercy, and it’s weirdly heartening to see them working together again.
