Queen Jesus – “Drop D” (Stereogum Premiere)
Queen Jesus is an evocative name for a band — monarchial power and the deification of Jesus have always been at odds, a power struggle between two institutions that both want to be recognized as the most holy. That tension spills over into Queen Jesus’ music, which is a side project from some of the members of Philadelphia’s Three Man Cannon. “Drop D” is the first track from their upcoming new album Darkness Yea, Yea and it’s a searing song that feels like its been dulled by ice cold water, talking about medicated highs and long subway rides. The song is accompanied by striking slow-motion black-and-white visuals directed by Craig Sheihing that capture how solace can be found in the chaos of a city. Listen below.
