Stream Simian Mobile Disco Whorl
The British dance duo Simian Mobile Disco recorded Whorl, their new album, live, in real time, at an outdoor venue in the California desert. Both members of the group had one analog synth and one sequencer each, and they did the whole thing with a few hundred fans looking on. This is a high-stress work environment! But early tracks like “Tangents” and “Dervish” make it clear that those conditions helped them access some staring-in-infinity connection with electronic music’s past, as those tracks recall way-out pioneers like Tangerine Dream and Carl Craig. The whole album is now streaming online; check it out below.
Whorl is out 9/9 on Anti-.
