Hear Chris Martin’s Invictus Games Anthem
Chris Martin has written the official anthem for the inaugural Invictus Games, an international sporting event for wounded soldiers that takes place this week. The song is based off of William Ernest Henley’s 19th-century poem “Invictus,” and was recorded five days ago at Air Studios in London with both Prince Harry and Martin present. The Coldplay frontman doesn’t sing on the track — instead, it was adapted for a choir and orchestral performance by John Metclafe. It was performed at tonight’s opening ceremony by three members of the British Armed Forces. Listen below.
The Foo Fighters, Ryan Adams, Kaiser Chiefs, Ellie Goulding, and more will perform at the Invictus Games closing concert on 9/14.
