CBS Sports Cancels Tonight’s Rihanna Performance In The Wake Of Ray Rice Scandal
CBS has cancelled a Rihanna musical performance that was scheduled to air during tonight’s NFL pregame show. Instead, they will show a discussion about Commissioner Roger Goodell’s recent comments on the Ray Rice incident. “It’s important to realize we are not overreacting to this story but it is as big a story as has faced the NFL,” CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus told Sports Illustrated. “We thought journalistically and from a tone standpoint, we needed to have the appropriate tone and coverage. A lot of the production elements we wanted in the show are being eliminated because of time or tone.” The performance would have featured Rihanna’s 2009 Jay Z collaboration “Run This Town” with narration provided by Don Cheadle. TMZ alleges, “CBS didn’t want to feature another celebrity who was involved in a high-profile domestic violence incident,” but it’s not 100% clear if that is why this musical performance was cut.
UPDATE: A week later, Rihanna responds.
CBS you pulled my song last week, now you wanna slide it back in this Thursday? NO, Fuck you! Y'all are sad for penalizing me for this.
