Watch Mastodon Bring Guitar Faces To Kimmel
People within the metal underground are always worrying that their scene is getting too friendly or commercialized. And to those people, I say: Don’t you want to see a bunch of face-tatted swamp-monster-looking motherfuckers ripping through faces on late-night TV? Because that’s what we got last night, and it was pretty great. Mastodon, who just released the great Gibby Haynes collab “Atlanta” were on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to play “The Motherload,” a song from their new album Once More ‘Round The Sun. The performance wasn’t quite peak Mastodon; if you’re trying to make for compelling TV, you should probably play one of the songs that the drummer doesn’t sing, great howler and primary songwriter though he may be. But we did get the moment where Brent Hinds leans into the camera during a solo and makes a truly wonderful guitar face. Watch the performance below.
Once More ‘Round The Sun is out now on Reprise.
