The oddball Atlanta sing-song rapper ILoveMakonnen and superproducer Mike Will Made It have formed the duo MikeWiLLMakonnen, and “Wishin You Well” is their first single. Anybody worried that Mike Will was in full-on blockbuster mode post-Miley need not worry; this is a weird yet approachable track that bucks classification and bears the marks of Makonnen’s DIY heritage. His friendly farewell to an ex-lover comes delivered in languid bass-heavy beat that seems to be built around sitars despite sounding highly Western. Consider it the 2014 version of a George Harrison Beatles song. Hear it below.

Makonnen will guest on Mike Will Made It’s upcoming Ransom project, which does not feature “Wishin You Well.” No word on a MikeWiLLMakonnen release for now, but allegedly there are many more songs where this came from.
