Young Buffalo – “My Place” (Stereogum Premiere)
Oxford, Mississippi band Young Buffalo plays a gleaming, glowing brand of rock ‘n’ roll that bears traces of Southern swagger while borrowing from both coasts. Both the intertwining guitar action of New York greats from Television to the Strokes and the sunshine sleekness of California acts like Local Natives and Delta Spirit are apparent in the group’s eclectic mix. “My Place,” from the group’s upcoming debut album, builds to massive classic-rock harmonies over top of a space-age roots-rock groove, and the result could pass for an Allman Brothers/Flaming Lips composition if the sound wasn’t translucent in such a distinctly modern way. “It’s our life,” they sing, “so let us live.” Listen below.
Young Buffalo’s debut album is out early 2015 on Votiv. The band will play some New York dates during CMJ this week:
10/21 New York, NY @ Cake Shop (8:50 p.m.)
10/24 New York, NY @ The Living Room (9 p.m.)
10/25 New York, NY @ Arlene’s Grocery (8:30 p.m.)
