PJ Harvey – “Red Right Hand” (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds Cover)
PJ Harvey has released a cover of Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds’ 1994 track “Red Right Hand” that she recorded for the BBC TV series Peaky Blinders. It’s her second new recording since 2011’s Let England Shake — the other was a political protest song that was put out in August 2013 called “Shaker Aamer.” Peaky Blinders music producer Flood told NME that Harvey was recruited after complaints that the series — which focuses on gangsters in the aftermath of World War I — was coming across as too American. “We’re trying to make it feel much more European and British and PJ fits that bill perfectly,” he told NME. “I phoned Polly up and she was very interested. We’re trying to deconstruct all of Polly’s material and then weave it through, it’s very cutting-edge and modern.” Harvey’s cover appeared in the third episode of the second season, which aired two weeks ago in the UK. Nick Cave’s version of “Red Right Hand” serves as the show’s theme song. Listen to the cover below.
