Indiana singer-songwriter Joseph O'Connell records under the name Elephant Micah. He's got a new album called Where In Our Woods -- his twelfth under the Elephant Micah name and first for Western Vinyl -- coming early next year. Today he's sharing "By The Canal," a salt-of-the-earth folk tune that channels its melancholy into dreams of a better day. "They tore our flag in half," O'Connell sings with a rich, weary tone that recalls his old friend Jason Molina. Fans of Califone and Hiss Golden Messenger will probably dig it too.
