Nicki Minaj – “All Things Go”
When Nicki Minaj shared the tracklist for her album The Pinkprint earlier this week, I thought there was a strong possibility that “All Things Go,” the title track, would sample Sufjan Stevens’ “Chicago.” Stranger things have happened! But “All Things Go” showed up online last night, and there is no Sufjan sample. Some of you will probably breathe a sigh of relief at that. “All Things Go” is a chiffony synth-rap track with a sung chorus and a beat from Boi-1da and Vinylz, so it’s Nicki in pop mode. But it’s also her rapping openly and emotionally about the challenges of fame and money. This isn’t a new perspective, but she still lays out her situation in a way that really invites empathy. Listen to the song below.
