Landlady – “Please Come Home For Christmas” (Feat. Sylvan Esso’s Amelia Meath)
Brooklyn chamber-pop maximalists Landlady made a lot of noise earlier this year with their debut album Upright Behavior. And now, as a seasonal bonus, they’ve recorded their own version of Charles Brown’s 1960 holiday standard “Please Come Home For Christmas,” which some of us probably just know as the “bells will be ringing…” song. The Landlady cover is a sort of gutbucket-junkyard take, and it features the luminous vocals of Sylvan Esso and Mountain Man singer Amelia Meath. (Landlady, it’s worth mentioning, remixed Sylvan Esso’s “Hey Mami.”) The cover is out there to help build awareness for Landlady’s Landlady Holiday Spectacular show, which goes down tonight at New York’s Mercury Lounge and raises money for the Bushwick School Of Music. Landlady will headline, with Celestial Shore, Xenia Rubinos, Luke Temple, and others on the bill as well. Listen to the cover below.
Upright Behavior is out now on Hometapes.
