Watch Sturgill Simpson’s Victorious Visit To Late Night With Seth Meyers
Sturgill Simpson is moving up in the world. Besides the honor and glory that comes from cracking Stereogum’s list of the year’s best albums, Simpson was recently nominated for a Grammy, and our own Tom Breihan notes that the country singer’s upcoming Charlottesville, Virginia show sold out two months in advance after being upgraded from a smaller venue. As bro-country continues its inevitable rise, it seems Simpson’s “metamodern” take on the genre is clicking with a wide audience looking for a fresh spin on traditional sounds. If that’s the case, Simpson’s visit to Late Night With Seth Meyers last night — his fourth late-night TV gig this year after a triumphant Letterman visit last summer plus appearances on Fallon and Conan — will probably not be his last. Below, watch him perform his cover of When In Rome’s “The Promise” on the broadcast and his own signature song, “Turtles All The Way Down,” in a web exclusive.
