Yung – “Nobody Cares” (Stereogum Premiere)
Danish quartet Yung will release their international debut EP Alter soon, but they recorded it in 2013, just two months after they formed. You can hear the excitement and urgency of fresh creation in lead single “Nobody Cares,” a furious blast of sound that makes me wonder if Jay Reatard is secretly alive and well in Denmark and spending a lot of time with the Lemonheads discography. The song veers from verses built around a sparkling C86 jangle befitting the Softies or the Rain Parade into the rootsy melodic punk outburst passed down from the Replacements via Uncle Tupelo via Two Cow Garage. It’s overflowing with sounds, ideas, emotions — there’s an entire record store in these three minutes. Hear it below.
Alter is out 3/2 on Tough Love. Pre-order it here on transparent red vinyl.
