Lilacs & Champagne – “Roses & Kisses”
Alex Hall and Emil Amos, members of the Portland-based band Grails, have been recording under the name Lilacs & Champagne for a few years now, creating warped, swirling hip-hop and dub beats. With last year’s Midnight Features EP, they added two live musicians to their ranks: Zac Reno and fellow Grails member Jay Clarke. They’re getting set to release another volume of Midnight Features, subtitled Made Flesh, and they’ve shared the first track from it. “Roses & Kisses” is built around what sounds like a vocal sample from Joni Mitchell’s Blue track “The Last Time I Saw Richard.” They’ve put together a pretty collage of material from dusty record collections and assorted ephemera, channeling the same kind of pleasant vibes that Monster Rally did so well at the start of the decade. Midnight Features Vol. 2: Made Flesh is out 3/17 via Temporary Residence LTD.
