Stream Viet Cong Viet Cong
Next week has a packed new-release slate, but even with Sleater-Kinney and Belle & Sebastian and the Decemberists making their grand returns, you should absolutely make time for a relatively low-profile postpunk record that could end up ruling the rest of your winter. Viet Cong are a quartet from Calgary that features Matt Flegel and Mike Wallace, two former members of cultishly beloved guitar-tanglers Women. They released an EP called Cassette last year, and next week, their self-titled album comes out. It’s great. We’ve posted early singles “Continental Shelf” and “Silhouettes,” but don’t stop at those. The whole thing is streaming at NPR. Give it a shot.
Viet Cong is out 1/20 on Jagjaguwar (and Flemish Eye in Canada).
