Dorthia Cottrell – “Oak Grove”
Dorthia Cottrell is the singer of Windhand, the great Richmond, Virginia doom metal band; their album Soma was an Album Of The Week in 2013. But she’s about to venture out on her own and release something very different: a self-titled solo album of delicate and spectral folk music. We’ve already posted the Dorthia Cottrell songs “Gold” and “Kneeler,” and now we’ve got the rambling, rootsy, spacey “Oak Grove,” which is more of a country-blues song than most of her solo joints. If the soundtracks of shows like Justified and Sons Of Anarchy didn’t lean hard on absolute cheese, this is the sort of song that would sound great on there. As it is, it just sounds great on its own. Listen below.
