Check Out Danny Brown’s Theme For Eddie Huang’s TV Series Fresh Off The Boat
Danny Brown is a versatile rapper who makes anything he’s involved in feel effortless and cool, but he also has his finger on the pulse as far as important cultural and artistic moments. Eddie Huang’s new show, Fresh Off The Boat, which debuted last night, is making waves as a huge step forward for portrayals of Asian-Americans on TV, and Huang enlisted Brown to do the theme song for the show. I watched Twitter freak out over the song when the show premiered last night, but I don’t have a TV so this Instagram video was my first introduction to it. “Fresh off the boat/ I’m getting mine everywhere I go/ If you don’t know homie now you know,” Danny raps, interpolating his signature style with the thrust of the show’s plot. The clip is right around 30 seconds, but this is not your typical cheesy theme song — I wouldn’t mind getting this as a full track. Speaking of which, when are we getting a new Danny Brown album anyway? Watch the clip below.
UPDATE: The full minute-long version is now available, and I can’t get over that brass sample. Listen below.
