Shut Up, Dude: This Week’s Best And Worst Comments
Sunday is Music’s Biggest Night™ so we are obligated to watch the Grammys instead of Better Call Saul. If you’re gonna watch, head here to live blog with us. Quips wanted! Of course we’ll have to accept the possibility that Iggy Azalea will take home the Best Rap Album trophy — a travesty on par with Jethro Tull beating Metallica, but more racist. Will Iggy Iggs join her king, inspiring a hundred hot takes and the wrath of Twitter? We shall find out! Will Sam Smith get a lot of screen time? Unfortunately! Will Aphex Twin win Best Dance/Electronic Album? No one really cares! The Grammys bring all that intrigue, plus performances by Kanye West, Beyoncé, and Beck with Chris Martin, so get your guacamole ready and join us here for a Comment Party. It’ll be the 30th anniversary of the greatest Grammys performance of all time:
THIS WEEK’S 10 HIGHEST RATED COMMENTS

BlocJr (my 17 yrd old daughter) only listens to vinyl. She listens to nothing but ambient post rock. I asked her if she only listens to vinyl because of the inherent degradation of CD’s or the poor sound of MP3?s. Her response is a classic example of the self awareness you speak of… “No. I don’t care about that. Records are just way cooler” |

Yeah, but the sound is, like, so much warmer. [laughs at joke to self, preorders another album on vinyl, wonders what “self awareness” means] |

Arctic Monkeys frontman Alex Turner responds with… “We are boring. I suppose it’s from putting time into making thoroughly solid records instead of a few great songs followed by filler” Oddly enough Morrissey responded by cancelling something. |

The more I read about Pono and see articles about it, the more I want a Toblerone. |

“The new names like James Blunt” Shit. I knew the UK was in a different time zone, but I had no idea that it’s still 2004 over there. |

I’m 48 years old. My ears are shot. Just like Neil Young’s. You could record a whale farting into a tin cup and tell me it’s the new one from a reunited Replacements and I’d say… “Westerberg voice sounds weathered and rough. I LOVE THIS!!!!” |

THIS WEEK’S 5 LOWEST RATED COMMENTS

I just don’t get this shit. How can people still tolerate these affluent fucks bombing us with substance-less, grade-school bars doing nothing but perpetuating their own status? Has postmodernism really infiltrated everything so much that we are so wowed by the aesthetics of shit that we fail to comprehend its depthlessness? I don’t give a shit about how good a producer Kanye is, he doesn’t say shit, and art is in a scary place if all we continue to do is praise the pastiche and the superficial. |

Well said Noel. Anyone who disagrees with him or claims that he’s somehow “jealous” needs to wake up and realise what the music industry is doing to their brains. What excuse is there for modern pop and the complete lack of talent that it symbolises? Singles charts clogged with the same songs for months on end because the media just feeds people the same polished manufactured shite and nothing else. |

THIS WEEK’S EDITOR-IN-CHIEF’S CHOICE
Reid McCreary | Jan 30th | Score:17 | ||
I borrowed a Pono for a test drive a few weeks ago. After listening to Joni Mitchell’s ‘California’, I was amazed at the range of sounds that I heard. I could actually hear Joni’s fingers tapping on her guitar as she strummed each note! Incredible, right? After coming down from the Pono high, I went back to my standard iphone/ten-dollar-buds/Spotify combo. I cranked up ‘California’ again and could hear the exact same thing. |
