Chance The Rapper Auditioned To Play Dr. Dre, Will Release Next Album By Surprise
The world has been waiting on Chance The Rapper to come out with a follow-up to his breakout 2013 mixtape Acid Rap, and he doesn’t seem to be in any hurry to put it out. Chance has lately been working on Surf, an album from his backing bank Donnie Trumpet & The Social Experiment, and he may also be working on his own stuff; he’s keeping that information vague. But Interview did recently run a conversation between Chance and a friend of his, the comedian Hannibal Buress. Chance was supposed to be interviewing Buress, but Buress did ask chance if he’d release his album as a Beyoncé-style surprise. Chance’s answer: “The album is very much so a Beyoncé kind of thing. So I can’t say the date of the project, but I can say that it’s super dope.” He doesn’t specify whether he’s talking about Surf or his own solo album, but that’s something.
When Buress asks Chance if he’s thinking about getting into acting, Chance responds that he actually tried out for the role of Dr. Dre in the forthcoming movie Straight Outta Compton: “I actually did try out for the N.W.A movie… I read for Dre. But it wasn’t in God’s plan.” He also says that he tried out for a role in Fox’s rap-industry soap opera Empire, but then he admits that he was kidding. If Chance did show up on Empire, though, I would definitely watch that. Read the full interview here.
