The 2014 Academy Award Nominees
Academy Award nomination morning! I hope you remembered to set your ring tone to something soothing so the call from your publicist that awoke you from your deep sleep wasn’t too jarring! (Like, I know it’s good news, but can’t they wait until you’re in a light stage of your sleep cycle? Isn’t there something we can do to fix this?) The nominations are what you’d expect them to be, pretty much. (Announced by Chris Hemsworth and then breathlessly tweeted about by a good percentage of the people you follow on Twitter?) American Hustle and Gravity, two certainly enjoyable but not so great films, lead the nominations with ten each. 12 Years a Slave is only a bit behind them with nine. Jonah Hill is now a two-time Academy Award nominee. I guess one surprise is that quiet, little Nebraska, which is a film you should see right away if you haven’t, has six nominations, including one for best picture. That’s great! That movie is so good! Inside Llewyn Davis only has some minor nominations, which is surprising. The Butler didn’t receive any nominations. Tom Hanks wasn’t nominated. As far as I can tell, none of us were nominated, so I guess the snubs are more surprising than the non-snubs. Blah, blah, blah. Let’s just get to the list, huh? We only have so much time to spend on this Earth, let’s see which strangers other strangers decided were better at pretending than the rest of the strangers!
