So Will Smith kissed Jaden Smith while taping an interview promoting After Earth on Thai TV. What’s the big whoop?! Can’t a father show affection for his son while they promote their Scientology movie together on The Woody Show? Should men be afraid to kiss and hug their own children out of fear that society and, worse, blogs will perceive what they’re doing as “weird” or “creepy”? Should we treat Will and Jaden’s relationship differently than we would treat the relationship of any father and son, just because this father and son relationship exists, purposefully, in the spotlight? Are we moving still further away from a time when people were allowed to love each other and maintain their families without speculation and prodding from the never-satiated public? Will we be satisfied only when they are torn down and left exclusively as objects of ridicule? Will we ever be satisfied?! Can’t we allow a father and his son one tender moment? Can’t we be human beings?
