It’s the special “Summer Issue,” which makes sense, because if there is one thing that screams summer it is Will and Jaden Smith. “What are you guys doing this weekend, the weather forecast says it’s going to be beautiful summer weather.” “We haven’t decided yet, but whatever it is, it will DEFINITELY include Will and Jaden Smith.” (Actually, they are on the cover to promote a movie, but since none of us are going to see said movie, let’s just pretend that they were here to promote barbecue, because that’s more fun. I would go see a barbecue starring them.) In the article, neither of them brings up Oedipal complexes or any of the stuff you really want them to bring up, like Oedipal complexes, or even just Electra complexes, but Will does talk about the sticky situation of dragging your children into a business notorious for obliterating human beings and turning them into coke-smeared jelly dripping down the side of a ragged 100 dollar bill.

“It may seem like we have pushed our kids into the business, but that is absolutely insane. I would never, ever, push somebody to have their face on a poster that’s going be everywhere in the world. He is making a choice from the informed. It’s less scary to me than if he wanted to be a dentist in that I couldn’t help with what he’d chosen. Yeah. It is every parent’s nightmare that their child will walk into the living room one day and tell them that they want to be a dentist and you will just sit there with tears in your eyes and explain that this is what you always feared because you don’t have any relationships with any of the biggest dentists on Earth. So tragic. For those families, I mean. But this is definitely a huge relief for the Smith family. It turns out, he doesn’t want to help people at all! He just wants to show up to a movie set, spend most of the time hanging out playing video games in his air-conditioned trailer, and make millions of dollars to play make believe. You can’t force someone into that line of work, and you would be crazy to try, but when they choose to make the sacrifice on their own, that is the greatest reward. It takes a village.
