Saturday Night Live: Vince Vaughn And Miguel

Did Vince Vaughn host Saturday Night Live this week in promotion of The Internship? If so: Why? EVERYONE IS ALREADY FOR SURE GOING TO GO SEE THAT MOVIE! IN JUNE, WHEN IT COMES OUT! Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson, and a Google internship? Give me a break. No maybe-promos months in advance necessary. Luckily, no one will remember that Vince Vaughn ever hosted Saturday Night Live, as it was the most forgettable episode of the season! It wasn’t bad in a train wreck-y way, but it was never particularly sure of what it was doing and Vince Vaughn didn’t seem particularly like he wanted to be there. He was most energized during his opening monologue that allowed him to do some crowd work and dust off that classic Vaughn charm, but the remainder of the night (EXCEPT FOR THE PUNK SKETCH) (not to get ahead of ourselves) was a sleepy snoozer. There weren’t many highlights, but let’s get to them.

The “History Of Punk” sketch was very, very good. It’s a bit odd that SNL would allow Fred Armisen (I think it is safe to assume that this one was mostly Fred Armisen’s doing?) to do such a major sketch on such a niche topic (and I’m curious about what the general viewer consensus was on this one), but I think it worked out very well. Pretty much perfectly. A++++++++. Love it. This was really the only good one of the night, but it was a great one!

I like an excuse for Bill Hader to do silly impressions as much as, well, certainly not ANYONE, but as much as a person who appreciates them a normal amount, but I didn’t love the “Al Pacino HBO Biopics” sketch. The joke that he would be portraying different murderers burnt out for me immediately, and it was the only joke. But maybe you loved it, I hope you did!!!!

This might be a controversial pick (LOL) (it’s just TV) (it’s fine) but I thought “Short Term Memory Loss Theater” was the second best sketch of the night. I laughed! And not just because Bill Hader was laughing, but I do have to say that that didn’t hurt!

Weekend Update was good this week, and the LL Cool J and Brad Paisley bit was appreciated, though it’s difficult to parody something that already seems like a parody. The “previously cut” lines they sang at the end are really just BARELY crazier than the real lines.

And, finally, Miguel performed. I didn’t like his performances either, even though I thought I would. (Stereogum did, though!) They seemed especially unfocused and rambling? Like if Prince totally forgot what songs were, but still really wanted to try to write one? Hahah. I’m sorry, Miguel! I’m sorry, Vince Vaughn! “WAH-WAH-WAH!” -Meeeeeeee

ZACH GALIFIANAKIS IN MAY, THOUGH!
