There are trailers for new movies from Michel Gondry AND the Coen brothers this week. That is not bad! Drop out of film school and just read this blog post! (Don’t do that. I mean, drop out of film school for sure, but not for this. Mood Indigo

Oh, Michel Gondry. This looks like Amelie meets Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon on the set of Brazil. The movie is based on a book by Boris Vian, who was the beat poet of France or whatever, so it will be interesting to see what Gondry does with that kind of source material instead of a synergistic Charlie Kaufman world. Although, the book it’s based on is L’Ecume Des Jours which was originally translated into Froth on the Daydream, which is a WAY more Michel Gondry title than Mood Indigo. #FAILbelfish

Inside Llewyn Davis

It’s always kind of interesting when an artist (or whatever) defines their style so well that they can literally take on any subject matter or time period and it will still come across as distinctly them. Like, a bohemian 1960’s New York folk artist movie by the Coen brothers has more in common with Burn After Reading than it does with all the other bohemian 1960’s New York folk artist movies coming out these days (the one from the Sopranos, the one about Gossip Girl as Jeff Buckley that admittedly doesn’t take place in the 60’s but close enough, the one about On The Road). Anyway, I like the Coen brothers so this looks good to me. Next trailer.

Olympus Has Fallen

People always assumed that perfection was an unrealistic and unattainable goal, but they’re going to have to assume something else from now on because perfection has been achieved.

The East

Ugh. That is pretty much all I have to say about this. Ugh ugh ugh. And I’m probably on The East’s side on a lot of these issues, but no.

The Playroom

First of all, there are WAY too many quotes in this trailer. We get it! People saw your movie and then said something about having seen it! Two or three quotes is plenty, there are like 19 quotes in this. But also how much of a bummer must it be to put together a really sincere and personal movie about the experiences of a complicated life and set it in the 70’s because that’s where your frame of reference for those stories lies and then just have everyone say “This is set in the time when The Ice Storm was set!” and “The kids are definitely NOT alright which is another movie that has kids in it!” Bummer.

At Any Price

Is this the John Krasinski and Matt Damon movie about frakking? They look different. I guess that Peter Jackson 900 frames per second thing really is a new way to watch movies!
