In September, CBS will premiere its modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes, Elementary. (You may remember.) This is, of course, despite the fact that everybody is already in love with a modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes called Sherlock and it's on the BBC and stars Benedict Cumberbatch, who is basically Ryan Gosling at this point, and though it is unclear how many modern adaptations of Sherlock Holmes the television viewing public needs at one time, it is pretty clear that this one in particular seems somewhat unnecessary. BUT -- WHAT DOES BENEDICT CUMBERBATCH THINK? From Shortlist.com:
“I got hold of the pilot script just to check it out. I don’t know, we’ll see,” Cumberbatch says in the interview. “I think there’s room for us both to coexist. I don’t feel threatened by it and I wish him the best, which is as diplomatic as I can be.”
He continues: “It’s very odd. I did say [to Miller], ‘Well, I’d prefer you didn’t do it but you’ve got a kid to feed, a nice house in LA and a wife to keep in good clothes.’ I think Jonny was like, ‘Mate, I’ve got the f—king mountain to climb here, you’ve got nothing to fear.’ I wish him the best of luck, but I’m a bit cynical about why they’ve chosen to do it and why they cast him.”
"I do understand that you have to put food on your family." - Benedabe Cumberhaye. I don't know, it seems like he is not excited about it? You do have to read through the lines a little bit here, but I feel like between Elementary and the second season of Downton Abbey, Benedict Cumberbatch is, like, one cloying scene away from throwing ALL the TVs out of a window. I'm so sorry, Benny! That's just life! One modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes piled on top of the last one over and over until we're all buried beneath them.
