This was a weird episode for a few reasons. The first and worst reason right now is that somewhere around a million of the sketches aren't available online. Four of them, at least. Maybe even FIVE! Can you believe it? That's almost half! This unfortunately includes the very, very good Game of Thrones sketch, which, as you may be able to tell by clicking on that link, is actually available on Gawker, in case you didn't see it and want to go there and see it. Some of the others that aren't available are the "Time of Your Life" cold open, the one at the high school, and the "Empire State of Mind" one. So I'm sorry if you wanted to see any of those again. (You shouldn't be too sad about it.) (The cold open wasn't bad, though!) (It featured all of the GOP candidate characters sitting at a bar singing "Good Riddance [Time of Your Life].") You got to see the Game of Thrones one, though! Against all odds! You can be happy about that! The other weird thing about this episode was how Josh Brolin was basically not even the host at all, playing only very insignificant roles in most of the sketches and not appearing at all in either of the digital shorts. That was fine, though. For us. He wasn't great when he was in the sketches anyway, and the cast were certainly good without him. That's why I didn't use him in the lead image, in case you were wondering. I'm sorry to have kept you in suspense about why Josh Brolin was not used in the lead image, but it was a subtle diss. Dissed ya, Josh Brolin! Dissed ya about not being in your episode that much by not using you in the main image of this blog post! SRY! Anyway, let's talk about the things that we can. Why not.
I thought "The Californians" was good! It went on too long, no doy, and maybe lost its way a bit at the end when more characters were introduced, but it made me LOL once or twice. I'm not totally sure why Bill Hader kept breaking, 'cause it wasn't THAT funny, but it was certainly pretty funny and enjoyable and I liked it! The end!
The first Digital Short (Laser Cats), with a very good cameo from Stephen Spielberg, was good too! It's a little too bad that in order to have the first good Digital Short this season they had to spice up another "Laser Cats," but whatever, who cares. It was very good when ET said "EAT call house." Hahaha. All a good one.
And, hey, the second Digital Short was good too! Why didn't they spread these guys out between two weeks?
I think the majority opinion on "Garth and Kat" is that people do not like "Garth and Kat." That's fine. You do not have to like "Garth and Kat." But I, forever a rebel in which SNL sketches I do and do not like, DO like "Garth and Kat." BOOM! They're great, and they aren't really used enough that I ever really feel tired of their shtick. It's a good shtick! Keep on keeping on with it, sometimes but not often!
Aaaaaaaaand, that's it for what's available? The only other sketches are the prom sketch, which was not too great, and the Piers Morgan sketch, which was also not great. Actually, the Piers Morgan sketch was fine. Here is that one:
Taran Killam is very good at everything he does, and the Law and Order idea was funny. So that's that!
Gotye was the musical guest and even though I love the song "Somebody That I Used to Know," apparently most other of you guys and friends of mine REALLY do not like it. Like, specifically dislike it very much. What's the deal with that? Are we hearing different songs? Do you guys not like Phil Collins all of a sudden for some reason? What's your deal?! Also, what's the deal with the boxes on the ends of their microphones?
Huh? Can someone explain BOTH of those things?
