Earlier this week, the New York Times ran an article about Gwynnie P and her website Goop, raising all of the obvious questions, like "huh?" and "why?" and "isn't this what an asshole does?" Actually, the article itself isn't really critical. It just acknowledges the constant thread of criticism that constitutes "talking about Gwyneth Paltrow." The woman is likea bad ideas factory. Built out of solid gold and the bones of the poor. In any case, today People reports how Gwyneth strikes back at the critics (again):
"I think the people who are criticizing it or criticizing the idea of it, don't really get it, because if they did, they would like it," Paltrow, 36, told PEOPLE Wednesday night at a New York City benefit she hosted for Bent On Learning, a non-profit organization which arranges yoga and meditation classes in the city's public schools.
That's a totally awesome defense to criticism. People just don't get it. Classic. It is true, though. I don't get it. I'm sure if I was only smart enough to understand why Gwyneth Paltrow thinks normal people need her advice on what mid-century sink to buy for one's summer castle, and how to make reservations at restaurants that don't take reservations (hint: be famous), I would love it. I would just totally love the shit out of it so much. I'm so stupid.
Paltrow said she believes some of the barbs simply stem from the fact that she's doing something new and different. "I think that people like people to stay in their 'box' - they like people to stay how they are comfortable seeing them."
To be fair, Gwyneth has a point. I would like for her to stay in her box. Her box being a jail cell. But I think she's confused about how new and different what she's doing is. It all seems pretty standard GP. She was a delusional, entitled, self-congratulatory elitist encouraging an impossible standard of living afforded to less than 0.0001 percent of the population before Goop. Now she just emails people about it once a week.
