Turn To Crime – “Prince Of Slackers”
Slapdash Detroit postpunkers Turn To Crime, led by former Awesome Color frontman Derek Stanton, released an impressive debut album called Can’t Love last year. They’ve already announced plans to follow that one up with a new LP called Actions, which they recorded in Stanton’s Detroit basement studio. The first single has the on-the-nose title “Prince Of Slackers,” and there is indeed a bit of Pavement in the song’s slippery nonchalance. But there’s other stuff going on, too. The song has some krautrock in its rhythm section, and Stanton sings in a weary drawl that may give you J Mascis flashbacks. Below, listen to “Prince Of Slacker” and check out the Actions tracklist.
