Watch Vampire Weekend’s Ezra Koenig Get Burned By Triumph The Insult Comic Dog
Ezra Koenig of Vampire Weekend has become one of those cultural fixtures that’s bigger than just the indie rock community. His Twitter feed is funnier than most professional comics, he’ll randomly show up on a song with Makonnen and Despot, and now Koenig is letting a cigar-smoking puppet dog insult him on TV.
Who is Triumph The Insult Dog? Well, if you’re too young to know him from Late Night With Conan O’Brien (Editor’s note #1: Who are you people? –Chris), he’s coming back as one half of Adult Swim’s new sitcom The Jack And Triumph Show alongside 30 Rock’s Jack McBrayer, and it looks like the Vampire Weekend frontman was more than happy to get burned by the somewhat legendary pooping puppet (voiced by Robert Smigel). Hey, this is a dog who insulted Eminem and Moby over a decade ago even though it led to serious injuries.
Back to the future: In the forthcoming clip Triumph is still serving up zingers left and right. Koenig visits the dog’s coffee shop and appears to be a perfect gentleman, in spite of a brutal your-mom joke. Not only does he tell all his fans about how good the coffee from the dog’s shop is, but he fields Triumph’s assertion that his music is “fruity” with an unruffled grace. The best part of the sketch, though, comes in the form of fawning admiration from fellow barista McBrayer, who says he met Koenig at the “2011 Men Who Look Like Boys Convention.” Watch the clip below and look for the cameo in an upcoming episode. The show airs Fridays at 11:30PM EST.
(Editor’s note #2: This seems like a good show… for me to poop on!)
